Why did the file get larger?
Some images are already compressed efficiently. Re-encoding or choosing PNG can increase the size. Try smaller pixel dimensions, a lower JPEG or WebP quality, or a different format. The result shows the actual size, not a promised reduction.
Does compression preserve every detail?
JPEG and WebP quality settings trade some detail for size. PNG export is lossless at the pixel-encoding stage, but resizing or converting a source can still change its appearance. Keep your original file.
What happens to metadata?
Browser canvas export creates a new file and does not preserve the original EXIF/IPTC metadata. Do not rely on this tool as a forensic privacy scrubber; inspect sensitive outputs separately.
